Guess who’s back?!?

We are pleased to announce the restart of face to face Scouting in Fraserburgh. Starting with the Cubs, Scouts and Explorers we are targeting a 1st meeting date of Monday 21st September. If you would like to join us we need you to re-register with us using the link below.

Beavers will be restarting sometime after the October holidays so we will be in touch about that soon.

We are working closely with Aberdeenshire Council to ensure the cleanliness of the gym halls where we meet and extra cleaning will be in place in addition to a range of other measures.

We take the safety of our members seriously and there will be changes to the way we meet.

  • Hygiene will be of high focus and we ask all members wash their hands before attending
  • All members need to wear face asks on arrival and on departure
  • All drop offs will be at the school door – there will be no access into the building for parents
  • Ages 12+ need to social distance during meeting or wear face masks.
  • Prepare for outdoor activities. Whilst we will be inside the hall, to allow for greater social distancing there will be more outside activities where the weather allows.
  • Contact tracing – as part of our risk assessment and commitment to the council we need all members to reregister to ensure we know who will be attending and have upto date contact details. These details may be passed to the track and trace team where requested
  • Cashless – to avoid contact we will be moving to direct debit payment via online scout manager and gocardless secure payments. After registration you will be emailed a link to set up you’re OSM account and direct debit. We will take cash from those who don’t have access to the technology but would like to reduce this as much as possible to avoid handling.

We know that the coming days and weeks are going to be difficult for our families.

Scouts have always been active members of our communities and we know that now is no different.

As we develop skills and bring new experiences to young people, we know you’ll agree that it’s only right for us to step up and do what we can to support young people and our families.

So, with that in mind, we’d like to introduce The Great Indoors.

We’ve put together over 100 existing activities from our programme planner that are perfect for parents and carers to do with your children whilst at home over the next few weeks. Here in Fraserburgh we will also be running badge ideas over our Facebook page so you can still earn lots of new badges.

Join our fun and dynamic team and make a difference.

Scouts Fraserburgh are recruiting for Adult Assistants and Leaders to support each of our sections

Our adult volunteers get just as much from Scouting as young people. As well as helping young people to enjoy the adventure of Scouting, you also get the opportunity to try a whole range of different activities and new experiences. We can also help you develop your current skills and learn new ones. Volunteering in Scouting can enhance your CV or simply allow you to pursue your interest in a specific hobby.

You don’t need to have had previous experience in Scouting, just energy and enthusiasm. All of our adult volunteers receive full induction and ongoing training and support. We offer flexible working patterns, so you can do as much or as little as you want. Offering to help a few nights a year would be a fantastic help to the group.

Our group currently has a shortfall of volunteers with several of our leaders performing multiple roles across the age groups. Our group is fully gender inclusive and we are looking for Male and Female volunteers for:

America Here They Come!

Every 4 years, Scouting has a World Jamboree where Scouts from all over the World meet, share, learn and have fun together for 2 weeks. This tradition stretches back almost 100 years to the first jamboree in London, 1920. The Jamboree is above all an educational event that brings together the world’s young people to promote peace and mutual understanding and to develop leadership and life skills. The camp for 2019, the 24th World Scout Jamboree, is a jointly organised event by Canada, Mexico and the USA, the camp being held in West Virginia, USA.

Fraserburgh Scouts have kept up a proud tradition of having representatives selected to represent Scotland, the North Region, and the town, at every one of the last 5 World Jamborees (Thailand, UK, Sweden, Japan and now America) This year, 3 of the North Regions contingent of 24 young people are young ladies from Fraserburgh – Islay Francis; Rhiannon Ritchie; and Aaliyah Twycross. They will join 50,000 Scouts from round the World in West Virginia and the North contingent will visit New York and Washington D.C in addition to home hospitality with a Scout group in Canada as part of the trip.

The theme for the Jamboree, Unlock a New World, will allow them to unlock new adventures, new cultures, and new friendships. This jamboree will provide a different view on the Scouting movement. Holding fast to our traditions of conservation and outdoorsmanship, a jamboree in the New World is a jamboree that embraces the growing trend of leadership development and global citizenship that our movement has cultivated.

Fraserburgh Leader, Eilidh Kirkwood, volunteered and was selected as an Assistant Unit Leader to train and lead the North Contingent, whilst her brother Sandy is volunteering as part of the International Service Team helping to run the high rope activities.

This is the largest group from Fraserburgh ever to attend a World Jamboree and all of the Fraserburgh contingent would like to thank everyone who helped them raise the funds to be able to go to West Virginia.

The Scouts & Explorers has fun filled week at their 2019 summer camp. The group spent the week at Kielder water in Northumberland enjoying a wide range of activities and weather.
